Rogue Gestures at Nitya Nritya Festival

  • Kingsbury Hall 1395 Presidents' Circle Salt Lake City, Utah, 84112 United States (map)

Rogue Gestures/Foreign Bodies is a bharatanatyam, experimental movement, and live music production that explores the history, labor and lived experiences of women and immigrants in the US, and how these fractured experiences inform our identities now. Initially inspired by the oral histories of Indian nurses who arrived as a result of the 1965 Immigration and Nationality Act, choreographer Nadhi Thekkek, and her collaborators find universality in the heavy and enduring work of immigrant women and the worlds they traverse between.

The Nitya Nritya Festival is celebrating its landmark 10th year with an expanded footprint across the Salt Lake Valley. Hosted by the Nitya Nritya Foundation, this milestone edition branches out to new venues to bring the diversity of Indian classical arts to a wider community. Nava Dance is super excited to be teaching classes and sharing performance work at this wonderful hub for South Asian artists in Utah!
