Nava Dance Theatre Workshops & Classes

Come dance with us at one of our seasonal offerings! All classes are taught by Nadhi Thekkek, the artistic director. If you would like Nava to teach a workshop at your studio or location near you, please email purna@navadance.org

Rhythm & Gestures: An All Levels Bharatanatyam Class (Berkeley)
1 hour 30 minutes @ $21

Every Monday starting April 14th from 7:30 - 9:00 pm
@ Shawl Anderson Dance Center - 2704 Alcatraz Ave, Berkeley, CA 94705.

We begin with a warm up, fundamental adavus or foundational steps, learn a routine to popular music, and also do some abhinaya work rooted in gesture and improvisational storytelling. While some Indian dance experience would help, you do NOT need to be familiar with Indian forms to attend!

Please note, these classes are being facilitated by Shawl Anderson Dance Center.

Rhythm & Gestures: An All Levels Bharatanatyam Class (San Francisco)

Rhythm & Gestures: An All Levels Bharatanatyam Intensive (San Francisco)
3 hour 30 minutes @ $70

June 29 from 10:00am - 2:00pm
@ Dance Mission Theatre - 3316 24th St, San Francisco.

Use bharatanatyam inspired technique, music, and narrative building to inform your creative process and find new ways to move! Class will include working with live music, how to bring subtext and story into movement, and looking at both rhythm and gesture from a creative lens. We teach a short phrase to unconventional music to help us dig deeper into all of these perspectives.

This is a one day 3.5 hour intensive format for all levels! Regular classes in June are being held in Berkeley and San Francisco, and more information about those can be found above
